Say, do you remember?

Dancin' in September, never was a cloudy day...

How.Did.It.Get.To.Be.September?!?! The year is almost 3/4 gone! I cannot believe it! I feel like I just got settled into it being 2026, and now I need to order my 2027 book!  YIKES!

So August weather was weird too, with LOTs of rain. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, we got about 12" of rain in 2 days.  No joke.  Flooding was everywhere.

Old Business:

  • Started doing Trail Guide again - go me! Hands Heal and P4S still... not.
  • Gardening and house maintenance continue to take a front seat to anything else.
  • Finished The Testaments.  Interesting convergence of 3 different stories.
  • Now reading World Without End by Ken Follett. I know, it's the middle of the series.  It is so good, I will probably end up reading Pillars of the World too.  It is a HUGE book, I've read like 300+ pages and still not halfway done.
  • Magazines are still good.
  • Mending pile continues to grow.  Waiting for a rainy day when I am actually home! LOL
  • Have some memorabilia to put away again, but small pile.  I also need to start next project - homework book for 025.
  • PCP visit went well.  She is the daughter-in-law of former neighbors, not sure how I feel about that. But she's put me on midridine and I continue to wear my abdominal compression and it all helps.  Except when I forget!  Knee still in the brace quite a bit.
  • Guitar practice getting better again.
  • Weeding continues to go well.  My goal is to get all the way to the end of the northwest fence. Last year I was just shy of it by about 10 feet or so.  Stretch goal would be to work on the alley.
  • Finally got bush trimming done at work. K and I came in on a Saturday and buzzed through a lot, and even power washed the building.  Which it needed so badly. Also got sick and threw up my breakfast that Baby Bro and I had gotten. Yuck!  Now, it needs weeded again, and we said we'd do the big building this fall.  Whelp, I guess it's fall!
  • Remodeling at work is done.  Full sized washer and dryer are now installed.  There were so many problems with the building that had to be fixed first! YIKES!  Now we just need to put the room back together.  We had stuff everywhere, everything is so filthy from drywall dust, etc.
  • Colonoscopy was clean this year. A was able to take me now that she is retired.  Such a sweet woman!
  • 022 did visit, but we were not able to transplant anything - TOO HOT!  LOL  She's now on a CA road trip (on her way back now), so MAYBE...
  • Did not make it to the service project on Tuesday.  Was still pretty hung over from the anesthesia.
  • I ended up being able to go down to B&T's house on the 4th as well, so we had a nice family get together breaking in his new grill and deck.  Again, SO HOT! but we had fun.  Played Acquire again.  We all love it!
New Business:
  • AMTA National Conference was in Denver last week.  So much fun!  Got out there a couple of days early and was able to have breakfast with S one day and catch up a bit.  Never enough of that!  A few of us took off for Indian Hot Springs and that was fun. Got a little car sick. Dad and K tag teamed taking care of the kitty. Missed her a lot.
  • Closing session speaker challenged us to END something on purpose. Couple of things I want to END - being bad with my start/stop times on sessions, and taking so many late appointments, and taking too many appointments.  Hold me accountable to that!

Warm days, chilly nights...

... tis the weather in September.  It has been beautiful here in Indiana.  I spent last week in St. Pete Beach, where it was hot! (not complaining) and when I arrived back, fall was fully upon us!  Trees are changing rapidly.  Before I left, we had had a few days of cooler weather, and definitely chilly nights, but it still looked like summer.  the butterfly bushes are still in bloom, but the Ligularia (leopard plant) is till holding on a bit, as is the garden phlox. The wild asters are out, and the sedum is starting to wane a bit. The hummingbird hasn't been here since I've been back, at least not that I have seen.  I imagine she has moved on to someplace warmer.  However, the butterflies and the bumbles have been out like crazy.  Before I left, I also had a swarm of dragonflies!  So beautiful!

Old Business:

  • Finished Massage is Weird, started  The Power of Engagement, which talks more about energy management than time management
  • Finished Wool on the plane back home - I was having to pace myself on vacation because I forgot to bring Shift with me.  So I started Shift last night!
  • Trail Guide - still doing well at 3-4x per week
  • Planning for Success - I took it on vacation, but didn't touch it :(
  • Magazines - good, probably 5-6x per week
  • Running - not good, but did a  lot of walking at National Conference in August, and more last week on vacation.  Still having some issues
  •  Craft table is back to being messy - need to put away from National Conference and now vacation too
  • Cleaning - it's rolling, and I do feel better after I do it
  • Guitar - pretty good, 1-2x per week
  • Laundry equipment is moved out - yea!  I went up to see 022 in Grand Rapids the weekend before vacation with Dad's truck and we got the equipment down into the basement (shew, that was freaky!), changed out the electrical plug, hooked up the washer, and it worked!  Only had slight mishap, which was more comical than annoying, when I remembered we didn't have the clamp on the drain hose and the washer was already running.  Let's just say that part of the basement got mopped!  They have since gotten themselves a nice folding table and some shelves.  It's looking good!

New Business:

  • Sanding booth can now officially start back up again
  • K is marvelous!  We did her 90 day review before I left and I am super pleased!
  • AMTA conference in Phoenix was wonderful!  Did better with the group this year, but still had a lot of time to myself to just process.  Lots of learning, and unfortunately a few issues back home popped up while we were gone
  • Donut dude has had a hard time letting go. It has been a bit annoying
  • Weeding/mulching has caught up with where we put the fence back up - this is huge!  That means I got the huge pile of limbs chipped up, and yesterday even spread out some of them where I had weeded and gotten cardboard down, but ran out of time to mulch before I left. It is looking great! I have another huge pile to chip up, so that will help the backyard look better too.  And the leaf pile is mostly gone.  Have been thinking through ways of doing that better next time, perhaps with some stick cages
  • 019 made a surprise visit before I left on vacay, and it was nice to visit with her
  • Went to St. Pete Beach, FL on vacation. Mostly did not do much of anything other than sit, read, and go out to eat!
  • Am anxious to get some house projects finished up, and start on new ones
  • On vacay, went through Q4 to get some days off scheduled, as well as block of "me" time so that I have time and energy to do stuff here at home

Dog Days...

... August is full upon us, the Perseids have peaked, schools are back in session, and summer is winding down. Iris, peonies, weigelas, bleeding hearts, and creeping phlox all done, as is the magnolia tree.  The blooms survived this year!!!  So incredibly beautiful!  We now have Echinacea, black-eyed susans, russian sage, melissa, garden phlox, and butterfly bushes!  The little hummingbird has become a daily regular.  She is absolutely amazing! It continues to feed my soul to be out there in the backyard, cleaning, trimming, weeding, transplanting, and just sitting.

Old Business:

  • Still working through Massage is Weird, but very near the end
  • Wool has gotten incredibly good, and I don't ever want to put it down.  It has helped me get my love of reading back - what an incredible gift.  I started out only being able to do 1-2 pages at a time, but now do a full chapter in 1 sitting
  • Trail Guide, still plugging along, 3-4x per week
  • Planning for Success, not successful at all lol
  • Magazines, good
  • Running - horrible!  Did do 1 5K with almost no training. And ran all but about .5 miles, so I can do it, but am still struggling with heart rate and breathing
  • Craft table is actually pretty good right now!
  • Cleaning - rolling along, getting more consistent
  • Guitar - not so good, but...
  • Sanding booth - almost done, but now laundry equipment is in the way until I get it up to 022.
  • K at the office continues to just be marvelous!
  • Visited the cousin in Denver, had SSOOOOO much fun!  It was way too short!
  • Church conference in Cinci is done.  Drive down was beautiful, huge learning experience, difficult on the neurodivergent brain, but so glad I did it.

New Business:

  • Looking forward to AMTA conference next week!
  • No longer dating donut dude. Too many reasons to list, but most important, just not who I wanted to be with long term
  • Got fence section put back up, and have started replanting that area!
  • Have hosted my 019 kiddo a couple of times, that has been wonderful!
  • Last thing I did with donut dude was go to Bluespring Caverns down in S Indiana. That was absolutely gorgeous!

The Wheels on the Bus ...

... go 'round & 'round...

I know, now I have that song stuck in your head.  But how often life is just like that song, it just keeps going 'round.

Like I can't believe it has been since August since I have posted anything.  Wow, I'll see if I can remember the highlights...

September:
For Labor Day weekend, we went up north and spent the weekend at the cabin.  009 took a friend a long.  That was an interesting experience.  The boys all camped out in tents & loved it.  We went over to the lake and swam & had a picnic - super fun!

012 and I went up to Marshal for the Brooks Field Fly-In.  He had a great time catching flying pancakes.  We learned that regular coffee makes him too jittery.  He also got to drive Gadget's Willy's.  He did a great job, even with the clutch.  That was totally cool!

The boys had their TKD promotion to Jr. Orange Belt.  Very proud mama!

We did more work in the house in BTL, getting the bathroom closet & cabinets a minor overhaul.

Hooligans did the Special Olympics breakfast here in town, and then the Applefest Wings & Wheels show & parade up in Nappanee.  Gadget came down in the 172 and we ate some breakfast, then had to leave before the guys, so that we could make it there on time.  My boys went with us again this year.  They weren't as thrilled to spend the day hanging out at the airport as me.  However, I got to be in the parade this year with the guys in the Willy's & thanks to the lovely Sue for making sure they were OK.  It was a ton of fun!

At church we had a fun craft day at the local pottery studio.  I made a coffee cup for Gadget.

The boys continue to learn how to serve others by helping Grampa take care of the property.

We participated a bit in our community by going to SES's Family Fun Night and getting 009 his Jabba the Puppet & Jedi Academy books he's been dying for.

We took a late-season ride up to Hastings to eat at the Waldorff.  Yummy burgers!

I continued to do more work on the gardens, locating large rocks to line the drive with.

And scrapping, getting back into it again & trying to get stories told.

October:
More gardening, now over on the east side of the house, so the pine trees aren't so prickly when I mow.

Teaching the boys more cooking skills, it's actually starting to be a lot of fun, and 012 loves it!

Taking my brother Eric go-carting at Dad's.  It is so weird to see my kids taking care of him.

009's birthday to 010!!  Most exciting part of the month!  He is growing up way too fast!  We had it at Cannonball Lanes in town & he had a friend there.  His dad, stepmom & my dad made it too. AND chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles, as ordered!

Gadget and I took another trip up north over the weekend - getting really chilly now!  We decided to drive up the Leelanau Peninsula - that is the eastern peninsula of MI to check out some wineries.  We stopped at Two Lad's up on the tip, went up to the lighthouse and learned about how dredging has really caused water level issues for the lake.  Then we scooted down to another, that for the life of me I can't remember the name nor can I find it.  It was "something" Harbor.  Sigh.

We went to dinner at The Boathouse.  That was quite lovely, and expensive.  But it was the best Kobe Wagu beef!  Amazing!

More dryer woes & repairs - my goodness how we need good, cost-effective repair people!

Finally started getting our cubes at work.  Not a big hit.

012 had a Band Concert.  Can't believe I have a Jr. High Schooler.  Sheesh!  But, I am so proud of him, he loves playing the trumpet.

Halloween was fun, and we went into a girlfriend's neighborhood.  It rained, it was cold.

More scrapping - yea!

November:
I don't remember when, I can't find the pictures, but 010 did get his braces off!!!  That was totally cool!

012 is having to learn how to do homework again.  Being in advanced classes is just what he needed - challenged!

Finally got the old tree cut down. It was dead.  It is a lot of wood.  One of the guys at work came & loaded up 2 truckloads of stuff that he could take home & split.  Dad took a truckload or 2.  There is still a ton on the ground, but it is too big to transport.

More clean up going on at the Ceresco dam.  That was an oil leak that won't soon be forgotten.  Now they are talking about removing the dam.

Furnace acting funny - more troubleshooting - yea!  They can't really seem to find anything wrong with it.

More work on the dryer - hopefully this will do it.  Getting tired of drying laundry all through the house, but it does help with the static!

Got a new coffee pot - the one from my dad went on the fritz.  Found a Krups model that also does cappuccino!!!  How awesome is that!

We started putting in the new furnace in the house in BTL.  Wow, this is going to be a project!!  I'm just glad he finally picked one (I think it has been at least a year that we've been talking about it!)

Worked on new product a lot this month - fun stuff!  Made some special for the kid's crafts project they are doing at church.

Helped with a Thankgiving Get-Together for Growing Grounds.  A small group of men & women transitioning out of jail & their kids.  They are trying really hard to make better choices & it is really amazing to see them grow, and see the connections they are making.  We made journals together.  Even the guys thought it was totally fun!

Dad came up with me for the Stauffer family Thanksgiving.  That was so wonderful!  We've not done the Poole one yet!

And we had a cookout at home after cleaning up the yard a bit.  Hot Dogs!  And then we sat out there for a bit drinking wine.  I really need to get some nice camping chairs.

And more scrapping!

December:
More work on the furnace, have the board all mapped out where the pumps and controls and everything are going to be.

Getting ready for Christmas!!!

Another belt promotion - Full Orange Belt!!  So.Very.Proud!  It is absolutely nerve-wracking to watch them do parts of it!  012 has trouble with the breaking ones.  During his Jr. promotion, he missed it 3 times & had to sit down.  I was sure he was going to fail.  It was so hard to watch.  Then Master called him back & he got another try.  And he made it.  I thought I was going to cry!  Luckily he did NOT do that to me again this time!

Christmas Band Concert - They just keep getting better.  Mr. Hickman is probably one of my favorite teachers - he is just amazing with the kids!

More weatherproofing the house - hope it makes a difference!  This has been one of the coldest years.  And just staying cold - little fluctuations!  And lots of snow (that part I like),  we even had some before Thanksgiving.

012 being in shop/woodworking and making stuff.  Totally digging that!

Going to Chicago to visit S before Christmas - tons of fun, and way too much Jamison!

Stauffer Christmas - lots of fun!  And punctuated with an ice storm & loss of power.  Luckily everyone we knew was taken care of - either staying with others, or running on generators.

Baking cookies & going flying.  It was so beautiful, and it was good to get her out & going.

Spending time with friends, going to the Arcadia & the Cricket Club.

And more scrapping!

January:
We spent New Year's here with the boys.  It was  a work day for me, so I really struggled with staying awake.  I lost.  Gadget was sweet & woke me up a few minutes before the ball.  The boys giggled at me.  We then watched the Rockin' New Years' Eve show.  Horrible.  Dick Clark must be spinning!

The boys got to learn how to split wood, the old-fashioned way!  They've used the splitter before, and like it.  The maul gave them a new appreciation for it!

I went up to BTL the next weekend, and then the blizzard hit.  I ended up having to stay at Charley Creek.  I made it all the way to my road but could not make it down it.  I was so frustrated after 6 hours of driving.  I should have just stayed there!  The boys were with their dad & enjoyed 3 extra days.  The hotel was nice, however, I did not have a stitch of clean clothing, a phone charger or a book.  I did find a crossword book in my suitcase & I had 1 magazine.

Getting the driveway plowed out was an experience.  The guy I don't think wanted to come over & do it.  Then I found half my driveway - in my yard!  He had pushed all the gravel 6 feet into the grass.  I was not pleased.  Ernie from work had someone come over to pull it all back into the driveway and my neighbor waved them off saying he was going to do it.  I really don't need help like this!  Gadget plans on bringing the tractor down to do it.  So that has kicked off getting the trailer & the tractor ready for the road - he wondered what his next project was going to be after getting the furnace done!  That really needs to be getting all the wood split!

And more scrapping!!!

Omaha Steaks

This week/end has been fairly exciting for me.  Friday I took the day off to go down to the Moto GP in Indy with Gadget & D.  It was a lot of fun!  I had gone in 2011 with them, but got there later on Saturday so I didn't get to see any of it until the actual warmup & race on Sunday.

This weekend, however, we got there in time for practices on Friday.  We went to Mark Pi's for dinner that night, and then downtown for the Bikes on Meridian event.  There had to be 5000 bikes there!  It was just amazing! Words and pictures both fail to describe what it was like - the sounds, smells & sights of it all.  It was a good time walking around. Saturday was back out to the race, not as early as some would have liked.  Quick stop by Meijer to get some provisions & shorts for me.  We thought it might make more sense to take sandwich fixings than to spend $7 per sandwich there.  We ended up humping 2 coolers, 4 chairs and ourselves over what felt like miles!  The Jager girls had a nice tent set up & we had spent some time there on Friday taking a nap in the shade.  They had some little couches outside that we grabbed. We were mainly trying to scope out where the best spots would be to watch & for D to get some good shots.  I think he was looking forward to using his new camera & I loaned him a couple of lenses.  He says maybe I'll get to have a copy or two of the pics!  He's got a really good eye & really analyzes & sets up what he wants.  So I'm hoping so, his stuff never disappoints. He also was invited down to help with the eBike racing (electric) so he got to hang out in the pits working with the team he knew.

Then we left for the Indiana State Fair for the Indy Mile, which is a flat-track dirt race.  Totally AMAZING!  Several heats, then the big race at the end.  So much louder than even the GP bikes.  A girl won one heat, that was really cool to see.  It is just incredible to watch the skill of these riders (GP or dirt), the different techniques they use, how the different surfaces mean handling the bike differently, it at times looks like dancing on wheels.  Just so fluid & graceful.  But it is all very deceiving!  They are having to yank & pull & push to get that bike to do what they want it to.

So I'm guessing you're wondering what all of this has to do with Omaha?  Don't worry, I'm getting there...  Sunday was the main event for the Moto3, 2 & GP bikes, we watched that, and Marc Marquez won, he was on fire!  Nicky Hayden, Ducati's rider (one of them) came in 9th.  This is his last year with them.  They have been struggling lately with not having the fastest bike out there.  And honestly, there are parts of the race that are less than exciting.  By about 10 laps, they are all spaced out and not much changes.  The leader is usually 3-4 seconds ahead of everyone else.  If you are lucky, they may be jockeying for a couple of spots back behind, but not much changes, unless there would happen to be a wreck.  Which during the race, there usually is not.  Most of that happens during practice & qualifications.  Go watch them here it is phenomenal how they get up & walk away!

After the race, Gadget took me over to Indy Airport so I could come out here to the HTG Service Manager Summit.  They are a peer group (we are in HTG13) that we belong to that provides mentoring, access to other resources, etc.  They work collaboratively, even though technically we could all be competitors.  I got in VERY late Sunday night, and then up early Monday for a full day of conferences.  They do an amazing job staying on task & schedule.  The content has been incredibly useful.  None of it rocket science, all of it common sense, and just a better way to connect the dots.

Monday night, we went to Sullivan's to eat, which is a STEAK house.  those of you who know me, know this is my favorite food.  It was salty & savory & peppery.  It was tender & sultry & seductive.  It was AMAZING!  And expensive, but worth every bite.  I went with a big group of guys & just had wonderful fellowship & conversation.

Tuesday was a shorter session, ate lunch with a wonderful group of women.  After 25 years, it is comforting to see that our numbers are growing.  Along with our respect.

Then I relaxed, and then ate dinner at The Twisted Fork & ate a burger to make up for the night before on my expense report.  But it was tasty & good atmosphere.  I am staying at the Old Market Embassy.  Hats off to Omaha for turning that neighborhood around like they did.  It is now mostly an oversized pedestrian mall (10 blocks square, probably) with all sorts of wine shops, breweries, coffee house, bookstores, artisan shops, EVERYTHING!  Old architecture, beautiful brick streets.  Just stunning.  If you get a chance to be here, you must come here.  They are also making apartments in some upper levels.  If I were young & single, I'd be all over that!

Today (Wednesday) I am coming home.  In fact, I need to go pack.  I can't wait to see my boys.  They've been at Camp Grampa since Sunday.  Can't wait to hold them & kiss them & hear them.  I'm sure they have so many stories!  I haven't talked to them since Friday morning.  The time difference, work, school & TKD left me with never a time spot to be able to call.

Going back to work tomorrow should be interesting. I have 5,000,000 ideas.  Which one do I do first?!?!?!?

Labor Day Weekend

We left Friday to go up north – 5+ hours from home.  With 2 crazy monkeys.  To be with EE for the weekend & meet some of his other friends.  I was  a nervous wreck! Would the boys behave? Would I fit in? Would it be too overwhelming?  What if his kids didn’t like my kids?  He had gone up the day before & was so sweet “I know you’re getting in late, don’t worry, I’ll have everything all ready for you when you get here, you won’t have to worry about a thing”.  That even included a chilled glass of my favorite wine, that was a total surprise and about the most touching thing ever.  Is this what normal is like?  Is this real? Does it ever go away?  I just am so amazed every time he does something like that.  We met Ken & Theresa & 1 of their boys, who had brought along 2 of his friends.   Then on Saturday Brett & Pam showed up with their boy & girl.  We got up & dinked around for breakfast & got ready to go to the river.  Theresa just was wonderful in that she took care of breakfast & everything.  He always asks me if it is hard to sit by & watch someone else do all the work “YES!”.  But I am learning to view it as a gift given to me by them.  And no one likes a poor gift receiver.

010 was so super excited to go on the canoe trip.  We had to have lots of talks about the fact there is a lot of waiting, and that it is just for fun & relax & stuff.  It was hard.  007 wasn’t so sure, and of course he comes down with some weird stomach bug that was not much fun.  It involved a lot of rinsing in the river.  We finally get on our way.  I’ve never piloted (is that the right word? Steered, driven???) a canoe before and this is a bit of a challenging one.  I’m getting frustrated, Ben is getting frustrated.  He wants to be perfect right out of the gate, he doesn’t want to have learning time.  It wasn’t pretty for a bit. However, we finally figure out where everyone can stop for the first snack break (I so need a beer by now, and haha he’s got one ready for me!) I go off to answer nature’s call & come back to Ben telling me that 007 & EE got into it because 007 was angry we had stopped, he didn’t want to, so he started to splash EE, who kept telling him to stop & would splash a bit back.  007 got upset because “this is my only dry shirt!” but wouldn’t stop.  Which is how he is.  Keeps pushing & pushing & pushing.  So finally EE got tired of it & gave him a tap on the chest. 007 lost his footing & went all the way in the river.  He helped pick him up & 007 came up swinging like Chuck Norris, just completely mad.

So 007 ended up in my canoe, and 010 in with EE.  Which worked out really well.  As 010 listened to EE and learned a few things about how to handle a canoe.  And 007 & I got to have a talk about respecting others, and how we treat others, even when we are angry.  I was not pleased with him.  We had already gone round & round over a pair of water shoes that AM & he almost didn’t go.  There are times when I know pushing him is not the right answer, but sometimes it just has to be.  We eventually made it to the sand hill, which they climbed 3 times! And everyone was back to being their happy selves. (Yes EE & 007 made up).  I was getting pretty tired though as I was probably doing a lot more paddling than steering and was excited that we were almost done actually.  And I was starting to think I was getting to think I was getting the hang of it.  That was when I got tangled up in a pile of logs with the current rushing right at us & we dumped the canoe.  Now, EE being who he is, that cooler in the middle never budged!  But 007 is hanging on for dear life (yes, they had life jackets on) and is extremely terrified & I’m trying to get him.  I do manage to get ahold of him & he just clings desperately to me.  I have to admit I was scared after I got a hold of him.  I got us both calmed down and of course the boat is gone.  There is no shoreline to walk along & you can’t walk in the river.  I’m feeling abandoned & lost & scared.  I don’t really know what to do.  I put him down on a little bit of dirt (and of course he is extremely cold at this point, the water is only 58.  EE had just put HIS long sleeved shirt on him at the sand hill because he was wet & cold.  Now that really was the last dry shirt).  Some college guys float by, ask if I need help, get the canoe emptied out of water & we try to figure out how to get it back to me.  They ended up walking it back along the shore & I have to climb over the stupid pile of logs to help snag it.  I can’t feel anything below my waist.  007 doesn’t really want to get back in the boat but I explain it is the only way off the river.  A kayaker had gone by & I sent word up river with him, just in case.

So we get in, at this point I am just completely done, my nerves are shot, I’m freezing cold & I look down at my legs & they are just completely battered & scraped.  I thank them all very much & we get going.  We make it around about 3 more bends, and there is EE & 010 waiting on us.  Of course he had figured out already something had happened.  He gets us pulled over on the little bit of shore & we just enjoy being on land.  I am not too cold but 007 is shivering.  I help him get out of his jacket & EE helps him off with his wet shirt & gives him the shirt off of his back.  That helped & he warmed up a bit.  He looks at me & says “Mom, I don’t be mad but I don’t want to ride with you, I want to ride with Chuck!”.  “That’s OK buddy, I understand”.  And of course EE says “Cool”.  So we swap kids again.  And now 010 is amazing!  He helps! He knows what to do, he is a completely different kid!  And I needed that.  I was tired & beat.  We made it.  We had fun.  There were other moments too, of hitting & kicking between siblings, but that is not the part I want to remember.

We get back to camp, all of us.  And I just stand in the shower with the water hot.  And then I realize all my warm clothes are in the dry bag.  Which is still with EE dropping off all the paddles & stuff at Shomler’s.  So I rustle around in his stuff & find a sweatsuit.  Too big but it will work.  D & S are there already so I catch up a bit with them.  And get the boys squared away.  We end up going to The Mushroom in Mesick for pizza.  Except Ken & Brett have the burritos.  It’s like 5 pounds of stuff.  And it is a good time.  We go back, the boys feel asleep & the adults stay up & drink Jeremiah Weed, Jack and Jack & Coke. And smoke cigars.  And a strange observation comes over me.  There are just the 6 of us parents together.  D&S are over with the kids.  And it seems odd to me because they are adults.  And it felt weird for me to be included but not them.  I’m the outsider, but all of a sudden, I’m being treated like an insider.  And a warm glow just nestles down into my belly.  And we are laughing & goofing off.  I drew tattoos on 010 & Pam’s arms.  I drew a baby on Ken’s belly cause he was about 8 months along.  And I realize I am having an amazing, fun time.

Everyone leaves on Sunday, so now it is just the 4 of us. And we just hang out.  I make chili for supper, we have s’mores in the middle of the afternoon.  We tidy up & just have some low key fun.  That night, EE & I sit out by the fire and talk.  About what makes me happy, and him.  And he says I’m the single best thing that has happened to him in a  long time.  We talk about his cabin plans and what he wants to do.  And I’m so torn because I want to think I’ll be a part of it, that he thinks I’ll be a part of it. But knowing it probably won’t include me.  But I want it to so bad.  And then I wonder about why I worry about that so much.  Why can’t I just enjoy the moment of where I am?  I don’t know, other than I never really have.

Monday we pack up (the boys helped & did such a great job!) and we go to Gartlett’s Corner again for breakfast.  It was so super-yummy.  And then we are following him back.  He’s in lead, I’m #2.  And as we are driving a long & changing lanes & I’m struggling with being sad & depressed because I think this is never going to last no matter how much I want it to, I am struck with how much fun it is to drive like this.  He signals wanting to go over, I go over so that he’s got room & then he comes over & then in reverse to go back.  And I wonder if this is how it feels for him when he’s flying formation.  That our cars are really operating more as 1 unit instead of 2 separate machines.  It is thrilling and exciting & it brings a smile to my face.  It just feels good all the way down to the core.  And then I also realize we’ve been operating as a team all weekend long.  The X and I never were very good at that.  He never wanted me to help with anything.  He’d rather just struggle through it on his own.  It always made me feel useless.  And it about makes me cry.  Because EE never makes me feel that way.  We actually work together on stuff.

OK, wow that ended up being longer than what I thought, but apparently I had a lot I needed to get out.

010 and me…. This is at the first rest stop.

One of them is not believing the other’s story. I think this was before Chuck Norris came out to play…

You can see he did not really get very wet.  But he was still mad.  But he needs to learn the world does not always revolve around him.  He is allowed to state his opinion but that does not mean that I (or anyone else) has to follow it.  This is before we dumped.  And you can see how the cooler is strapped in there.  Makes for keeping the river cleaner.  You would not believe the debris sometimes!

This is the sandhill, hard to tell how big it is, but that is the boys way up there.  Takes a good 5+ minutes to climb.  No I did not.

August 21

I know I promised some September stuff, and I know there’s some things that I need to write down & talk about, but I couldn’t believe that I forgot this!  The weekend before the Moto GP we went on a ride over to www.whytehorsewinery.com which I think I mentioned.  We played hookie from church, T, J & I and EE & I were at their house about 10:30.  Of course it rained on the way over there & was chilly.  We were concerned but decided to forge ahead.  It did sprinkle a bit but finally did clear up.  Just outside of Logansport, we saw a bunch of older cars sitting out, so we pulled over & decided to check it out.  Ended up being a Hudson club get together, but he had lots of other cars, lots of Corvairs!, to look at too.  He owned easily 25, the guy who was hosting.  We motored on over to Monticello & found the place.  Did a wine tasting & chose some to take outside on the veranda to drink, with a plate of cheese.  It was just so good to hang out with friends all together.  Something that the X and I rarely did.  He would usually go off with the guy of the couple & then the wife & I would talk on the rare occasions that we did something.  Never really 4 people sitting & talking.  But that’s what we did.  And it was like music to my soul; it felt so good.  Normal just doesn’t feel very normal. The X & I rarely sat & just talked with each other, period.  His face was always glued to a laptop screen of some sort.  We probably talked better on the phone when he was traveling.  That is about all EE and I do.  Is sit and talk.  And it is so weird.  And I’m scared we’ll run out of things to talk about.

I just so want someone to share my life with, to make stories with.  I think maybe I have that person…but now I’m fearful he’ll be taken away.  Now that I’ve drank from the fountain, I don’t want to leave.

See, I told you I have a thing for his head… Oh my goodness the feeling of being back there, of the utter freedom that I feel, it is intoxicating!  Taking full, deep breaths that purge the stress from you lungs, the scents that infiltrate your nose can make you giddy!  When the corn is in tassel it smells so sweet, so heavenly.  Going through the woods or under trees the temperature changes & so does the quality of the air.  It turns earthy, fresher, alive.  And of course there is the feeling of him sitting between my legs that is very sensual in a non-purposeful way that I think makes it an even bigger turn-on, because it is not intentional.

He is an amazing man, he is blue jeans & tuxes all wrapped up in the same package.  He is easy-going, adaptable, flexible, non-flappable and I find that incredible.  He is kind & gentle, strong & tough.  He is a wonderful dad & his kids show it.  He has a good heart, he is caring & attentive & sensitive.  As for Wabash & the surrounding areas, sorry but I think he’s the last one still single.  But he’s not available so don’t even try!  He has made my life better.

Here is T&J.  She is one sexy, beautiful mama that is so full of life, she inspires me.  She can be so over the top, outrageous and crazy & I love her for it, even when she embarrasses me (in fun) and stretches me to think (waaaayyyy) outside my box.  He is just an all-around good guy, his boys are lucky to have him for a dad & role model & more men should be like him.

And here is the two of us just being goofy.  No, we didn’t wreck, yes it used to make me nervous when he did that, but he’s been riding for longer than I’ve been alive, so if I can’t trust him, who can I?

More on the Moto - August 27-28

Let’s just say that first off, this was an amazing trip for me.  I can’t say that “I’ve always wanted to go” or anything, but it sounded like so much fun, I couldn’t resist.  I would so go back.  These guys just do amazing things with those machines.  And honestly, the racing part is over before you know it.  All the events just makes it so much fun.  I haven’t gone through all the pictures yet, I started with almost 800, I now have just over 200.  This one is from the Moto2 race, it is indescribable to watch them and how they almost start operating as a unit instead of individuals.  I was completely fascinated with the forms and lines they would make.  And of course the colors were just beautiful, but I’m not sure they are adequately represented in my shots.  After I got there on Saturday, we did go out to eat & managed to get 3 parking ticket warnings.  We then also cruised up & down the block around the circle (actually they probably had 5 blocks blocked off going south) and had a few drinks before going back to the hotel as we wanted to get a somewhat early start off to the track for Sunday.

This is one of the packs from the Moto2 crew

And this is Saturday night cruising around.  We’re on the Katana and yes I have a thing for taking pictures of the back of his head!  Well, maybe that’s just because that’s what I see from the back of the bike.  Or maybe it’s because I totally dig him. Or both..

It felt like a million bikes.  It was so cool to walk around & look at them all & totally cool to ride around trying to find a place to park.  A few good stories.

Cool little pat on my back....

I had a request for use for one of my pictures out on Flickr!  Totally cool!  Yes, I have sold some but it is still exciting to be noticed.  This one is not paid, but it gets pretty good exposure.  You can see it here, it is of the Tennessee River Aquarium in Chattanooga http://www.schmap.com/chattanooga/sights_zoos/p=177472/i=177472_111.jpg for some reason Apture won't embed the link, but it might have something to do with the link.  There are a couple out there, mine is of the building from the outside.  I was honored to be sent there 3 years ago this spring for an ACS conference for my church.  My friend Jan & I had a blast!

Anyway, I have lots more I want to blog about, hopefully I can do that this afternoon.  Special music got postponed until today, and I'm worship leader, so my nerves are going into overdrive. It's also 5th Sunday breakfast & I've got some bad bananas that I'm gonna make into good muffins.  I wanna talk about my job & life too.
